Start with the provider’s wording
“Virtual number” can describe services with different underlying arrangements. Before comparing options, find the provider’s own explanation of the type of number supplied. Do not substitute a product nickname for a technical category.
Separate the number from the inbox
A number identifies a contact route. An inbox, forwarding feature or dashboard determines how messages are accessed. Ask whether your access is exclusive, shared with others or passed to another destination. Those details affect how you manage private information.
Identify the task
Receiving ordinary messages, using a service for a continuing account and meeting a platform’s verification requirement are separate questions. An answer about one does not establish the others. Record the exact task in your comparison note.
Leave uncertainty visible
If the number category is missing from the information you can find, mark it as unknown. Ask the provider a specific question rather than relying on a headline. The worksheet includes an unresolved state for this reason.
